Plastic straws are finally getting more attention in the media, and rightly so.
Although they have often been overshadowed by the menacing plastic bag and disposable cup, they have consistently been in the top 10 most commonly found plastic items, according to the Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup data.
Each day, around the world, more than 500 million drinking straws are used and discarded. While some are recycled, most are dumped in landfills and find their way into the ocean, where plastic pollution is taking its toll on wildlife.
100,000 other marine animals. In one example, inspecting the stomach contents of a sea turtle that died from ingesting plastic refuse, Marine Conservation Institute scientists found more than a hundred drinking straws, alongside plastic bags, cigarette butts and plastic bottle tops.
Globally, initiatives have been put in place to decrease the consumption of single-use plastic straws. But what’s a straw-loving citizen to do? Now that you might actually be confronted with the possibility of carrying your own straw for coffees-to-go and movie-theater slushies, we’ve created the perfect alternative.
We wanted to make it easier to bring your straw with you so we got to the drawing board and had a new straw kit made that comes with two stainless steel straws, a cleaning brush, and a vegan-leather pouch — everything you need to take it with you on the go!
Siréne's stainless steel straws are made of high quality 18-8 food grade 304 stainless steel and you can find them in different colours and sizes for any occasion. In addition, stainless steel does not leach chemicals and does not interact with the product you are consuming. Steel retains the temperature of your drink and prevents it from melting down.
Glass straws are an amazing alternative to disposable plastic ones. They are reusable and infinitely recyclable. This means that at the end of its life, it doesn’t go to the landfill. Our glass straws are made from borosilicate glass – the most durable commercially available glass. It is resistant to thermal shock, meaning it can withstand incredibly high and low temperatures making them perfect for hot and cold beverages.
